Granola Breakfast Bowl

Updated: Nov 26, 2018

Even when you're in a rush to get to that 9am lecture, don't miss out on a quick but healthy breakfast that will make it so much easier to start your day! With some of your favourite granola (or other -sugar free- cereals of your preference), a few spoons full of Greek Yogurt and a handful of different fruits (local or exotic, take your pick) you're good to go to create your personalised early morning booster!

I layer this bowl using three simple components; The base, he yogurt and the fruits.

The Base:

I usually go for unsweetened granola or cereal as the fruits contain all the natural sugars you need.

The Yogurt:

I am a big fan of Greek Yogurt. It has a rich taste and a thick consistency. Of course, you can also choose regular yogurt or milk, but make sure to pick a product that has the natural percentage of fat! So-called low-fat foods are just loaded with sugar to make up for the lack of taste.

The Fruits:

You can go completely wild here. I love exotics so for this bowl I chose physalis, pineapple and passionfruit! But there are so many options out there so mix and match your favourites; apples, pears, kiwi, cherries, strawberries, banana, really whatever you like. Pick three, one sour, one sweet and one juicy. If you are worried about the fruit turning fluffy or developing into a great Sangria alternative, many supermarkets (Albert Heijn for those also living in The Netherlands) have a large variety of frozen fruits; They last long and are especially great for warm summer mornings.

Here's a small list of some fruits that go well together:

  • Apples, banana and oranges (or mandarines)

  • Blackberries, raspberries and blueberries

  • Kiwis and bananas

  • Pineapple and mango

  • Strawberries, honey melon and blackberries

  • Grapes, apricots and apples

The Little Extra:

If you want to be even more fancy, top the bowl off with some cinnamon. You could also add a dash of honey, a handful of walnuts / cashews / almonds or maybe some other fancy things you happen to find in your kitchen - perhaps even some raw cocoa nibs or chia seeds?
